Cambodia Highlights Diplomacy and Ceasefire Commitment in Border Talks with Thailand

PHNOM PENH, April 28, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodian government has underscored its diplomatic efforts and commitment to territorial integrity amid continued engagement with Thailand over a long running border dispute, officials said Tuesday.
Government spokesman Pen Bona said Phnom Penh was pursuing “active and continuous diplomacy” alongside measures to safeguard sovereignty.
His remarks came as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn met Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow on the sidelines of the ASEAN EU Ministerial Meeting in Brunei.
Officials described the talks as “frank discussions” covering confidence building measures and broader bilateral relations.
Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to a ceasefire agreed in December 2025 and to implementing a joint statement issued after a special General Border Committee meeting.
Separately, the defence ministry said it had organized a field visit for foreign military attachés to border areas, aimed at demonstrating Cambodia’s adherence to peaceful dispute resolution under international law and ASEAN principles.
Prime Minister Hun Manet earlier this month said both sides continued to respect the ceasefire.
Bona added Cambodia was ready to resume boundary demarcation work through the Joint Boundary Commission, calling it a basis for lasting peace and stability for border communities.
