PHNOM PENH, May 7, 2026 (KPT) — Major beer and beverage producers in Cambodia have pledged to comply with a new government directive banning prize promotions through bottle caps, ring pulls and similar packaging based reward campaigns.

The commitment follows an announcement by the Ministry of Economy and Finance stating that companies must phase out such campaigns by the end of the third quarter of 2026, with a full ban taking effect on October 1.

HEINEKEN Cambodia said it welcomed the government’s decision, describing the regulation as an important step toward creating a fairer, more compliant and better regulated market, while also supporting responsible consumption and public health objectives. The company said it would work closely with stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition for consumers, distributors and business partners.

Vattanac Brewery, a Cambodian owned company, also expressed full support for the move, pledging cooperation with authorities to ensure effective implementation. The firm highlighted its emphasis on product quality, noting international recognition with 44 gold medals and six diamond awards in just over three years of operation.

Khmer Beverages said it would continue redeeming existing prizes currently in circulation until stocks are exhausted, while fully complying with the government’s timeline.

The new regulation is intended to promote fair competition and tighten oversight in the beverage sector.

Cambodia’s beer and beverage sector is expanding rapidly, driven by rising incomes, tourism and urban demand. Industry reports project the beer market to grow at more than 12 percent annually between 2025 and 2031, with consumption deeply embedded in social life. Imports of beverages are forecast to reach $290 million by 2026, while exports of alcoholic drinks are expected to rise to $17 million.
