Cambodia reaffirms commitment to sustainable development at Hamburg conference
HAMBURG, July 1, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable development and multilateral cooperation at the Hamburg Sustainability Conference (HSC) 2026, where senior officials joined global leaders to advance partnerships and accelerate progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), officials said Wednesday.
Senior Minister Chhieng Yanara, Second Vice‑Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), represented Phnom Penh at the two‑day meeting held June 29–30 under the theme “The Power of Cooperation: Driving Progress Together.”

The conference, opened by German President Frank‑Walter Steinmeier, brought together high‑level representatives from governments, international organisations, the private sector and civil society to strengthen cooperation and promote shared commitments toward achieving the SDGs.
Discussions focused on building resilient economies through technology and environmental sustainability, addressing risks and conflict, and strengthening multilateralism and global governance. The CDC said these priorities closely align with Cambodia’s national development agenda and its engagement in regional and international partnerships.
On the sidelines, Yanara met Bärbel Kofler, Parliamentary State Secretary at Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, to discuss preparations for Cambodia‑Germany Governmental Consultations in November. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation and enhancing the effectiveness of bilateral development programmes.
Yanara’s participation underscored Cambodia’s determination to advance the SDGs through inclusive partnerships, mutual accountability and effective international cooperation.
