PHNOM PENH, May 20, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s National Assembly is preparing to host a major regional health forum in August that will bring together lawmakers from across Asia‑Pacific to discuss shared challenges and strengthen cooperation on public health policy.

A preparatory meeting was held May 19 at the National Assembly Palace in Phnom Penh, chaired by Lok Kheng, head of Commission 8 on health, social affairs and labour.

Senior officials from the Senate and National Assembly, including representatives from parliamentary commissions and technical departments, reviewed progress for the 9th Asia‑Pacific Parliamentary Forum on Global Health, scheduled for August 11–13.

Organizers said the forum will focus on strengthening health systems in the post‑Covid period, improving maternal and child health, tackling communicable and non‑communicable diseases, and enhancing the role of parliaments in shaping health policy.

The National Assembly said the event is intended to promote the exchange of experience and best practice among parliamentarians, with the aim of building more resilient and inclusive healthcare systems and advancing health‑related Sustainable Development Goals.

Cambodia’s hosting of the forum reflects its broader engagement in regional parliamentary cooperation on global health issues, officials added.
