Cambodia Unveils Smart Tax Headquarters as Economy Maintains Growth Momentum
PHNOM PENH, May 21, 2026 (KPT) — Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Aun Pornmoniroth said Thursday Cambodia’s new General Department of Taxation headquarters marks a historic step in building a modern, transparent and technology‑driven public administration, as the country pushes digital reform amid continued economic growth.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony presided over by Prime Minister Hun Manet, Pornmoniroth said the facility supports the government’s broader digital transformation under the Pentagonal Strategy and is designed to meet rising demand for tax services while strengthening investor confidence.

The 30‑storey complex in Chroy Changvar district houses a taxpayer service center, conference and commercial facilities, a broadcasting studio for tax education and a Tier III data center that could later be upgraded to Tier IV standards.
Officials said the headquarters is equipped with advanced digital systems, integrated security and modern service infrastructure aimed at improving efficiency and transparency.
Tax chief Kong Vibol noted Cambodia has shifted from paper‑based systems to digital platforms aligned with international standards, helping boost revenue collection to US$6.77 billion in 2025 without new taxes. Officials said stronger digital governance has improved efficiency and investor confidence.
Pornmoniroth reported the economy grew 5.3 percent last year, supported by garment manufacturing, non‑garment industries and trade, while foreign investment registrations surged 45 percent to US$10 billion. He cautioned that external risks — including Middle East instability, rising fuel prices and inflationary pressures — could weigh on growth in 2026.
The Asian Development Bank projects Cambodia’s economy could still expand by 4.5 percent if global tensions ease, with industrial output supported by garments, electrical components, tires and furniture.
