Cambodia and Netherlands Seek Deeper Investment Cooperation as Bilateral Trade Tops US$1 Billion
PHNOM PENH, May 20, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia and the Netherlands have reaffirmed their commitment to expanding economic, trade, and investment cooperation after bilateral trade surpassed US$1 billion in 2025.
The pledge was made during a meeting between Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet and Dutch Ambassador Remco Johannes van Wijngaarden at the Peace Palace on Wednesday, as the ambassador concluded his diplomatic mission in Cambodia.

Ambassador van Wijngaarden praised the steady progress in bilateral relations, particularly in trade and investment, noting the sharp rise in trade volume in recent years. He also expressed gratitude for the Cambodian government’s support of Dutch businesses operating in the Kingdom.
Prime Minister Manet congratulated the envoy on the successful completion of his mission and commended his role in strengthening ties across multiple sectors. He stressed that the strong partnership would continue to deepen economic cooperation and connectivity, opening new opportunities for both nations.
Both sides discussed ways to boost business-to-business cooperation through trade exhibitions, business missions, and investment promotion activities. Manet highlighted Cambodia’s investor-friendly policies and ongoing reforms aimed at improving competitiveness and supporting both existing and new foreign investors.
He noted that the success of current investors contributes not only to economic growth and job creation but also serves as a catalyst for attracting further international investment.
The two also exchanged views on regional and international cooperation, including collaboration within ASEAN and support for a rules-based international order.
During the meeting, Samdech Thipadei briefed the ambassador on recent developments along the Cambodia-Thailand border and reiterated Cambodia’s commitment to resolving disputes peacefully in line with international law and bilateral agreements.
Ambassador van Wijngaarden reaffirmed the Netherlands’ and the European Union’s support for international law and the rules-based global order.
