NEW YORK, May 26, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn held a series of bilateral meetings with international partners on the sidelines of a UN Security Council high‑level debate, focusing on diplomacy, development cooperation and regional security.

Talks included senior officials from multiple countries as well as UN Secretary‑General António Guterres, with discussions covering bilateral ties, economic cooperation and regional stability, including the Cambodia–Thailand border situation.

In a meeting with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Michael George DeSombre, both sides reviewed progress in relations.

Cambodia expressed appreciation for Washington’s diplomatic role in supporting peace efforts under President Donald Trump, while the U.S. urged adherence to existing ceasefire arrangements.

Sokhonn also met counterparts from Pakistan, Bahrain, Azerbaijan, Cuba, Germany and Portugal. Several talks explored trade and investment opportunities, while Germany signaled readiness to act as an “honest broker” in regional tensions.

Portugal and Cambodia signed a memorandum of understanding establishing bilateral political consultations, welcomed by the UN chief.

In his meeting with Guterres, Prak Sokhonn reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to resolving disputes peacefully in line with international law and thanked UN agencies for support aligned with national development priorities.
