PHNOM PENH, May 29, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia has reiterated its commitment to international law and the peaceful resolution of disputes, as senior officials held a series of high‑level meetings on the sidelines of the United Nations Security Council debate in New York.

Government spokesman Pen Bona said Friday that Cambodia remained committed to mutual respect and peaceful conflict resolution to preserve regional and global stability.

His remarks followed Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn’s participation in the Security Council’s open debate, where he also met US, UN and Chinese officials.

During talks with US Assistant Secretary of State Michael George DeSombre, Sokhonn praised Washington’s diplomatic role under President Donald Trump in easing tensions over the Cambodia–Thailand border dispute and implementing the Kuala Lumpur Peace Agreement.

The US side encouraged both countries to comply fully with the accord and also commended Cambodia’s efforts to combat cybercrime and online fraud.

In a separate meeting, UN Secretary‑General António Guterres reaffirmed support for Cambodia’s development priorities and stressed the importance of resolving disputes peacefully and in line with international law.

Sokhonn also met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, with both sides welcoming the outcome of April’s “2+2 Strategy” meeting in Phnom Penh and agreeing to expand the framework to a “3+3” mechanism to strengthen political, military and security cooperation.

Sokhonn thanked China for mediation efforts and support for a ceasefire, while Beijing pledged continued assistance with oil, gas and fertiliser supplies and confirmed readiness to host Cambodian leaders later this year.
