PHNOM PENH, June 9, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia’s Defence Minister General Tea Seiha on Tuesday dismissed reports in Thai media alleging Cambodia was preparing for confrontation along the shared border, insisting the country remained committed to peaceful resolution of disputes.

Seiha said suggestions that Cambodia was boosting troops and weapons to provoke conflict were “inaccurate” and misrepresented the government’s position.

“Certain media outlets and individuals in Thailand have tried to convey the message that Cambodia rejects bilateral mechanisms and is increasing forces to provoke war soon. This is not true,” he said in a statement.

The minister stressed Cambodia’s adherence to agreements signed with Thailand, including the Kuala Lumpur Accord of October 2025 and the joint statement of the General Border Committee issued in December 2025.

He said Cambodia’s stance had not changed despite tensions along sections of the frontier.
“Cambodia consistently adheres to its steadfast position of resolving all issues peacefully,” Tea said, adding that the country strictly respected existing mechanisms and agreements.

He expressed hope both sides would continue dialogue and avoid actions that could heighten tensions.

“Cambodia remains hopeful that these matters will be resolved peacefully and absolutely without the use of force,” he said.

His remarks come amid heightened public debate in both countries over border deployments and military activity in frontier areas.
