SIEM REAP, June 16, 2026 (KPT) — Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet has underlined the crucial role of Cambodian women in safeguarding peace at home and abroad, speaking at the opening of the World Women’s Leadership Assembly and the annual OB‑PS community meeting in Siem Reap.

Samdech Thipadei said peace is the foundation of all development, education and youth opportunities, stressing that without peace, progress in these areas would be impossible.

He emphasized that women are not only beneficiaries of peace but also indispensable agents in preserving it — from families and communities to the national and international stage.

The premier noted Cambodia’s recognition as a leading ASEAN member for deploying female peacekeepers under UN missions.

Since 2006, Cambodia has sent more than 10,000 personnel abroad, including about 990 women, across nearly 10 missions.

He said this contribution demonstrates Cambodia’s commitment to global peace and the country’s growing reputation in international forums.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet added that the government has prioritized continued participation in UN peacekeeping operations, aiming to assist populations suffering from conflict worldwide.

Cambodia is acknowledged as one of the ASEAN states that has significantly increased the deployment of female personnel in UN peacekeeping operations, reinforcing its role as a regional leader in promoting gender inclusion.

The recognition of Cambodian women in peacekeeping reflects both national policy and international respect, underscoring their importance in shaping a more peaceful and resilient future.
