PREAH VIHEAR, June 2, 2026 (KPT) — An ASEAN observer team has visited a disputed border area between Cambodia and Thailand to assess conditions on the ground, Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence said Tuesday.

In a statement, the ministry said the ASEAN Observer Team, led under the Philippine chairmanship, travelled to the An Ses border checkpoint in Choam Ksan district, Preah Vihear province.

The mission, facilitated by Cambodia’s Liaison Group, aimed to observe, verify and report on the situation.

The ministry alleged that the site had been affected by Thai military incursions, including barbed wire installations and shipping containers, which it said prevented Cambodian families from returning home.

According to the statement, the inspection underscored the need for the Cambodia–Thailand Joint Boundary Commission to begin land demarcation work “as soon as possible,” in line with commitments made at the December 2025 General Border Committee meeting.

The mission also reviewed implementation of measures agreed under the ceasefire declaration signed in October 2025 and reaffirmed in December.

Cambodia’s government reiterated its commitment to those agreements, stressing that they are essential for recovery efforts, long‑term peace and the safe return of displaced residents.

The ministry said the observer visit highlighted Cambodia’s determination to pursue peaceful resolution through dialogue and cooperation, while urging Thailand to respect joint commitments and international law.
