PHNOM PENH, June 18, 2026 (KPT) — Founders in Cambodia’s startup ecosystem are increasingly turning to artificial intelligence and regional expansion strategies, aiming to transform local innovations into scalable businesses that compete beyond the Kingdom’s borders.

The trend was highlighted at the inaugural Tech Talk hosted by La French Tech Phnom Penh, which gathered more than 150 entrepreneurs, investors, students and innovation leaders to discuss the future of technology and business innovation.

Under the theme “Apps for Emerging Markets — In the Age of AI, How Do We Build from Cambodia?”, participants explored how startups can leverage AI and digital tools to overcome the limitations of a small domestic market while creating products with regional potential.

La French Tech Phnom Penh Co‑President Thierry Tea said Cambodia’s technology ecosystem faces both challenges and opportunities as it seeks to align with international innovation standards. Startup founders from travel, education, property and food technology shared experiences of building digital products and navigating growth hurdles.

BAMNANG CEO Seng Rothsethamony voiced ambitions to become one of Cambodia’s first unicorns by 2030, echoing government goals to nurture globally competitive firms.

Panelists from Plug and Play Tech Center, Techo Startup Center, RedBridge, NewWave and SKAI Technology discussed how AI is reshaping entrepreneurship, while stressing the need to solve local problems and understand user behavior.

Despite challenges in capital, talent and cybersecurity, participants said Cambodia’s startup ecosystem is maturing, supported by a young digital‑savvy population, improving infrastructure and growing public‑private backing.

The event also forms part of preparations for the 2026 Francophonie Summit, aimed at raising Cambodia’s profile as an emerging innovation hub in Southeast Asia and the wider Francophone community.
