Government and UN-ESCAP Collaborate to Shape Cambodia’s AI Future
PHNOM PENH, April 7, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia is stepping up its digital transformation through a new partnership with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP), aimed at shaping the country’s artificial intelligence (AI) future, officials said Tuesday.
The collaboration was announced during the launch of a joint report on AI governance, developed by the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation together with UN-ESCAP. The report sets out a strategic framework to guide Cambodia’s AI development, focusing on innovation, ethics and inclusion.

Minister Hem Vanndy said AI has the potential to accelerate economic growth, improve public services and support evidence-based policymaking. The framework emphasizes a human-centered approach, ensuring technological progress benefits all segments of society while adhering to ethical standards.
Officials and experts at the workshop highlighted the importance of cross-sector collaboration, bringing together government, academia, the private sector and development partners to ensure effective implementation.
The initiative reflects Cambodia’s ambition to build a resilient digital economy, reduce development gaps and position itself competitively in the global technology landscape.
