China’s Ping An backs Cambodia’s visa-free policy, eyes tourism insurance partnership
BEIJING, July 16, 2026 (KPT) – Ping An, the world’s largest insurer by revenue, has voiced support for Cambodia’s visa-free entry for Chinese citizens and agreed to explore a tourism insurance partnership to boost safety and confidence for visitors, officials said Wednesday.
The commitment was made during talks in Beijing between Tourism Minister Huot Hak and senior executives of Ping A Property and Casualty Insurance Company of China, led by Chief Executive Officer Shi Hequn.

Hak was accompanying Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet on his official visit to China and participation in the 2026 World AI Conference and High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance.
Hak highlighted Cambodia’s tourism potential, recent sector reforms and the government’s campaign to eliminate online scam operations. He underscored the visa exemption policy for Chinese citizens as a key measure to attract more visitors from one of Cambodia’s largest tourism markets.
Both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation by developing investment plans to enhance tourism safety and security, with a focus on establishing a Cambodia–China joint tourism insurance framework.
The initiative would provide comprehensive coverage for Chinese and international tourists, aiming to reinforce traveler confidence and support Cambodia’s drive to expand arrivals.
Ping An also pledged to study investment in exclusive luxury tour programmes targeting high-end Chinese tourists and investors. To advance the proposals, both parties agreed to appoint focal points to coordinate planning and conduct fact-finding missions in Cambodia.
According to the ministry, Ping An serves about 251 million retail customers and more than 4 million corporate clients worldwide. The meeting marked the ministry’s first official engagement during Hun Manet’s visit, underscoring efforts to deepen tourism cooperation and attract new investment into Cambodia’s sector.
