PHNOM PENH, July 16, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia and the United States have pledged to strengthen cooperation against online scam operations, following talks between senior officials in Phnom Penh.

Chhay Sinarith, Senior Minister in Charge of Special Missions and head of the Commission for Combating Online Scams (CCOS), met Aleksandra Zittle, Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy, on July 15 to discuss joint efforts against transnational cybercrime.

Sinarith highlighted close cooperation between law enforcement agencies and said Cambodia had intensified its crackdown on scam compounds and criminal organisations.

He stressed that authorities would strictly enforce the law against organisers, accomplices and facilitators, while welcoming deeper collaboration with international partners to address what he described as a complex global challenge.

Zittle praised Cambodia’s recent progress, noting its institutional mechanisms and legal framework.

She said online scams are a serious form of transnational crime requiring close international cooperation, adding that Washington considers the issue an urgent law enforcement priority.

Both sides agreed to identify further opportunities to strengthen cooperation and improve the effectiveness of joint operations.

Sinarith also announced that Cambodia will host an International Conference on Combating Online Scams at the end of September 2026, aimed at advancing global dialogue and coordinated action.
