PHNOM PENH, July 16, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia’s National Police has warned citizens against joining online scam networks, saying criminal groups are luring recruits with offers of monthly salaries between US$300 and US$600.

Deputy Commissioner-General Dy Vichea urged vigilance, warning that those who participate could face prosecution under Cambodian law. He called on citizens to report scam groups and avoid involvement in transnational crime.

The warning comes as authorities intensify crackdowns on online scams, drug trafficking and other illicit activities. Immigration officials said more than 45,000 foreigners were deported in the first half of 2026, including over 16,000 linked to scam operations.

Director General Sok Veasna said enforcement operations had surged compared with 2025, with deported foreigners permanently barred from re-entering Cambodia.

He described the campaign as the country’s most intensive effort to dismantle online scam networks, noting suspects often attempt to flee during raids.

Under current procedures, individuals who leave voluntarily are allowed to depart, while those who refuse face legal enforcement, deportation and permanent entry bans.

Authorities say the crackdown is essential to protect public security and safeguard Cambodia’s international reputation.
