BEIJING, July 16, 2026 (KPT) – Chinese home appliance and technology giant Haier Group has partnered with a Cambodian company to establish the country’s first tablet assembly plant, officials said Thursday, in a move expected to expand access to affordable digital devices and support Cambodia’s digital transformation.

The investment plan was announced during Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet’s meeting with Haier Vice President Diao Yunfeng on July 15, part of his official visit to China and participation in the 2026 World AI Conference. Diao briefed the Prime Minister on Haier’s global operations, noting the company serves 44 million users worldwide across more than 60 countries.

He outlined plans to produce affordable tablets for students and informal workers, aiming to boost digital access and promote distance learning. Hun Manet welcomed the initiative, describing it as a key project to accelerate Cambodia’s digital transformation in education and strengthen human resource development.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting investors through incentive policies and encouraged Haier to deepen cooperation with its Cambodian partner and relevant ministries.

The announcement formed part of Samdech ThipadeiHun Manet’s July 15–17 visit to China, during which Cambodia is seeking to attract high-quality investment in technology, manufacturing and digital innovation.
