Cambodia, IMF Mission Hold Annual Economic Review
PHNOM PENH, Mar. 5, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s central bank has hosted the annual staff visit of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), with discussions focused on macroeconomic stability, financial policy and future challenges.

Dr.Chea Serey, Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia, welcomed the IMF delegation led by Kenichiro Kashiwase, mission chief for Cambodia. The meeting at the Wat Phnom headquarters marked the start of the 2026 review, part of Cambodia’s obligations under Article IV of the IMF agreement.

Governor Serey briefed the delegation on Cambodia’s economic performance in 2025, highlighting stable exchange rates and low inflation. She also outlined measures to address key challenges, including border tensions, cyber fraud and compliance with banking regulations.
Kashiwase reaffirmed the IMF’s support for Cambodia’s financial sector development, noting ongoing technical assistance, training programs and scholarships to strengthen institutional capacity.

Following the courtesy call, the IMF team held technical discussions with NBC officials on Cambodia’s economic outlook, banking system progress and emerging risks.
Dr.Serey later wrote that the IMF’s evaluation and recommendations would provide valuable input as Cambodia navigates multiple challenges, ensuring monetary and fiscal policies remain effective in safeguarding national stability.
