PHNOM PENH, April 24, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol and central bank governor Chea Serey will take part in the Nikkei Forum “Future of Asia” in Tokyo this June, joining heads of state and ministers from across the region to share candid views on geopolitics, markets and policy, organizers said.

The two‑day forum, set for June 10–11, is one of Asia’s most influential platforms for frank exchanges among leaders. Chea Serey will speak on financial resilience and monetary stability, while Sun Chanthol is expected to highlight Cambodia’s infrastructure ambitions and regional connectivity.

Their presence underscores Cambodia’s bid to project itself as both a credible financial actor and a strategic partner in Asia’s economic integration. Analysts say participation by senior figures signals Phnom Penh’s intent to strengthen investor confidence, deepen regional cooperation, and ensure its voice is heard in debates on trade, energy transition and security.

Cambodia’s banking sector has shown resilience, with assets reaching USD 101 billion in 2025 and deposits climbing 14 percent, according to NBC’s annual report. The Asian Development Bank projects growth of 4.5 percent in 2026, supported by strong manufacturing and diversification into electronics and tires.

Official data show international trade surged 17 percent in the first quarter to USD 16.9 billion, with exports of garments, footwear and electrical components driving gains. Foreign direct investment approvals hit USD 2.5 billion in the same period, creating more than 82,000 jobs, including major projects in special economic zones, renewable energy and hospitality.

For Cambodia, the engagement offers visibility and influence: it places the nation’s leadership on the same stage as regional powerhouses, reinforcing its push to attract investment and assert its role in shaping Asia’s future.
