Cambodia’s Banking Sector Rebounds in 2025 as Deposits Surge, Assets Near $102 Billion
PHNOM PENH, Feb 27, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia’s banking and financial sector regained momentum in 2025, with total assets climbing nearly 10 percent to about USD 101.8 billion, underscoring resilience amid global and domestic economic pressures, according to the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC).
Customer deposits surged 14.7 percent to roughly USD 65.7 billion, reflecting sustained public confidence and strong liquidity across financial institutions. “Deposit growth has been a key driver of the rebound, supporting capital buffers and stability in the system,” said Kea Boran, Chief Executive Officer of AMK Microfinance Institution.

Outstanding loans expanded modestly, rising 4.1 percent to USD 63 billion, marking an improvement from 2024 though still below pre-pandemic averages. Credit growth remains tempered by cautious lending practices as banks navigate external uncertainties.
The sector continues to face challenges, with the non-performing loan (NPL) ratio edging up to 8.9 percent in 2025, compared with just over 7 percent a year earlier. Provision coverage stood at 67 percent, keeping net NPLs at 2.9 percent, levels the central bank described as manageable under prudential oversight.
Despite slower credit expansion, the system maintains strong liquidity and capital positions, bolstered by regulatory supervision and rising adoption of digital finance. E-wallet accounts and platforms such as Bakong saw significant growth, broadening financial inclusion nationwide.
