Cambodia and Brazil Agree to Boost Tourism Cooperation and Economic Growth

PHNOM PENH, Feb 27, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia and Brazil have agreed to draw up a detailed action plan to implement their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Tourism Cooperation, aimed at promoting tourism growth, investment, and stronger economic ties, officials said Thursday.

Tourism Minister Huot Hak met with Vivian Loss Sanmartin, Brazil’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Cambodia, at the Ministry of Tourism headquarters to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation in the sector.

Hak highlighted the milestone achieved with the signing of the MoU on November 10, 2025, between the two countries’ tourism ministries, calling it a significant step forward in strengthening collaboration.

He proposed a concrete plan with clear implementation phases to ensure the agreement is carried out effectively, stressing that enhanced cooperation would stimulate investment, foster people-to-people exchanges, and generate economic benefits.

Ambassador Sanmartin welcomed the initiative and pledged close coordination with Brazil’s Ministry of Tourism to advance the MoU in a structured and impactful manner.

Hak also congratulated Sanmartin on her recent appointment as Brazil’s first resident ambassador to Cambodia and on the opening of the Brazilian Embassy in Phnom Penh, noting the move reflects the steady strengthening of diplomatic relations since ties were established in 1994.
