Cambodia eyes motor sports tourism hub with third overland adventure event
PHNOM PENH, July 14, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia is seeking to position itself as a regional destination for motor sports and adventure tourism by supporting the Third Overland Event, officials said Tuesday.
Tourism Minister Huot Hak voiced full government backing during a meeting with the CPG Overland team, led by caravan trip organizer Huor Chandvotthanak, who briefed him on preparations for the upcoming adventure rally.

Hak described the initiative as a high‑potential tourism product that would promote motor sports and adventure travel while diversifying Cambodia’s portfolio and strengthening its appeal as a destination. He said the event is expected to showcase emerging tourist sites, natural attractions and community‑based tourism projects to a wider audience.
The minister added that the rally would stimulate domestic tourism by boosting demand for accommodation, food services, transport and other businesses, generating income and supporting local livelihoods. He urged organizers to ensure high standards of safety and responsibility, stressing environmental protection, respect for local traditions and close cooperation with authorities, provincial tourism departments, private partners and communities.
The CPG Overland Club has previously staged events in Mondulkiri, Ratanakiri, Preah Sihanouk and Kandal provinces. The ministry said the third edition is expected to become a signature product targeting young travelers, nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts, highlighting attractions beyond Cambodia’s cultural landmarks.
Hak reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to supporting the initiative, with the long‑term goal of transforming it into a regional motor sports tourism event that enhances Cambodia’s profile in Southeast Asia.
