PHNOM PENH, Feb 19, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia’s private tourism sector has urged the government to extend tax relief measures beyond Siem Reap to provinces nationwide, while intensifying destination marketing campaigns to restore traveler confidence.

The government recently introduced a one-year tax exemption for tourism businesses in Siem Reap, home to the UNESCO-listed Angkor Archaeological Park, to support the industry amid fluctuating international arrivals.

Thourn Sinan, President of the Pacific Asia Travel Association Cambodia Chapter, welcomed the move but said operators across the country are struggling with the impact of border tensions with Thailand, geopolitical uncertainty and the crackdown on online scam networks. He called for exemptions to be extended to Phnom Penh and other provinces.

Sinan also stressed the need for stronger destination marketing, urging comprehensive campaigns to promote Cambodia as a safe and attractive destination, expand digital outreach and develop new tourism products.

Official data show international arrivals to Angkor fell sharply in January, down 36 percent year-on-year to 93,491 visitors, generating $4.52 million in revenue — a 34.5 percent drop compared to January 2025.
