PHNOM PENH, Feb 12, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia’s exports to Vietnam jumped 21 percent in January, underscoring renewed momentum in bilateral trade and the growing strength of the kingdom’s agricultural sector.

The General Department of Customs and Excise (GDCE) reported Wednesday that two-way trade between the neighbors reached more than $719 million in January, up 7.3 percent from a year earlier.

Cambodia shipped $337 million worth of goods to Vietnam, while imports from Vietnam slipped 2.5 percent to $382 million.

Agricultural commodities drove the surge, with rice, rubber, cashew nuts, cassava, corn, bananas, mangoes and tobacco among the leading exports. Vietnam, in turn, supplied Cambodia with construction materials, machinery, fuel, electrical equipment, fertilizers, spices, fruits and vegetables.

Dr. Hong Vannak, an economic expert at the Royal Academy of Cambodia, said favorable trade frameworks and regional climate conditions had boosted Cambodian farm exports. “Supply gaps in Vietnam and Thailand have opened opportunities for Cambodian farmers, particularly in food and staple commodities,” he noted.

Both governments have pledged to expand bilateral trade to $20 billion in the near future, reflecting deepening economic cooperation.

Despite a slight dip in overall trade last year, the January figures point to a strong start in 2026. Total trade between the two countries reached $7.7 billion in 2025, down nearly 1 percent from $7.8 billion in 2024. Cambodia exported about $3.72 billion worth of goods to Vietnam last year, while imports totaled around $4 billion.
