SIEM REAP, Cambodia (Jan. 2, 2026) — Nearly one million international tourists purchased entrance tickets to Angkor Archaeological Park in 2025, generating close to $45 million in state revenue despite regional tensions and global economic headwinds, according to Angkor Enterprise.

The agency reported that 955,131 foreign visitors bought Angkor passes last year, producing about $44.7 million — a 6.5 percent decline compared to 2024. In December alone, 87,936 international tourists visited Angkor, generating $4.2 million, down 28.5 percent year on year.

Thourn Sinan, president of the Cambodia chapter of the Pacific Asia Travel Association, said global economic uncertainty has weakened long haul travel demand, particularly from Europe, while China has seen reduced outbound travel in certain segments. Health risks and natural disasters have further dampened flows. Still, he said the decline remains manageable and urged stronger public private cooperation to diversify source markets.

Kheav Thy, president of the Angkor Tourist Guide Association, said prolonged border tensions with Thailand have directly affected arrivals in Siem Reap, slowing new bookings and increasing cancellations.

Nationwide, Cambodia welcomed more than 5 million international visitors in the first 11 months of 2025, a 13.8 percent decline from the same period in 2024. Vietnam remained the largest source market with 1.1 million arrivals, followed by China, Thailand, the United States and South Korea.
