Cambodia, China’s Guangxi Branch Pledge Stronger Central Bank Cooperation
Phnom Penh, Cambodia (Dec. 9, 2025) — The National Bank of Cambodia and the Guangxi branch of the People’s Bank of China reaffirmed their commitment to deepen cooperation, pledging stronger partnership in cross-border payment systems, financial innovation and credit information sharing.

Governor Dr. Chea Serey welcomed President Chen Jinxiang and his delegation at NBC headquarters in Wat Phnom, where both sides emphasized the importance of long-term collaboration between the two central banks. Chen praised Cambodia’s economic progress, including the opening of Techo International Airport, and expressed China’s intent to expand cooperation.
Dr.Serey responded by highlighting Cambodia’s achievements in credit information sharing with key partners and thanked Guangxi for supporting the inclusion of the riel in regional currency trading. She noted that the mechanism has facilitated trade settlement in yuan and riel, easing transactions for businesses.
After the meeting, Dr.Chea wrote on her social media: “I was pleased to welcome Mr. Chen Jinxiang, president of the Guangxi branch of the People’s Bank of China, and his colleagues. We discussed cooperation between the two central banks, especially in payment systems.”

“We also exchanged views on each other’s economies, particularly with the goal of encouraging investment from Guangxi into Cambodia and facilitating trade settlement between the two countries in Chinese yuan and Cambodian riel. The Guangxi branch has consistently supported this mechanism by providing official direct exchange rates from yuan to riel to ease transactions for traders,” she added.
The delegation later held detailed technical discussions with NBC officials to explore new areas of collaboration.
