PHNOM PENH, March 18, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia is stepping up efforts to strengthen tax compliance and raise awareness of capital gains tax obligations, as part of a broader push to enhance revenue collection and ensure fairness in the system, officials said Thursday.

The General Department of Taxation (GDT) on March 13 held a seminar on capital gains tax obligations, excluding real estate, for taxpayers in key provinces including Preah Sihanouk, Koh Kong, Kampot, Kep and Kampong Speu.

Around 350 participants joined the hybrid event, which provided practical guidance on compliance and clarified legal provisions. Deputy Director General Ken Sambath said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to transparency and to ensuring taxpayers understand their rights and obligations.

Officials stressed that capital gains tax has long been part of Cambodia’s legal framework, with updated provisions aimed at improving enforcement. The outreach seeks to promote equitable taxation, fair competition and sustainable revenue mobilization.

Authorities said similar programs will continue, with the goal of building a stronger tax culture, improving voluntary compliance and reinforcing trust between taxpayers and the administration.
