PHNOM PENH, Mar. 27, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia’s Tourism Minister said Friday that sport serves as a bridge for peace, promoting public health and encouraging youth participation, after presiding over a five kilometer fun run in Kratie province.

The event marked the 10th River Festival under the theme “Green Rivers, Cultural and Natural Heritage,” aimed at showcasing tourism potential along Cambodia’s waterways. More than 2,500 athletes joined the run, alongside government leaders, civil servants, private sector representatives and members of the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia.

The minister emphasized that the Royal Government continues to prioritize tourism as a pillar of the national economy, while promoting sport under the slogans “Sports live in harmony in society under the umbrella of peace” and “Tourism thrives in peace.” He also highlighted the movement encouraging every citizen to practice at least one sport in their lifetime.

He said sports activities not only improve physical and mental health, but also refresh the mind, build self confidence, strengthen relationships, promote unity and solidarity, and cultivate perseverance to achieve goals.
