PHNOM PENH, April 1, 2026 (KPT) — The Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) has pledged to promote Cambodia’s tourism potential across its 28 member countries, which together cover 90 percent of Asia’s territory and population, officials said Tuesday.

CICA Secretary General Kairat Sarybay held talks with Tourism Minister Huot Hak at the ministry headquarters in Phnom Penh, focusing on ways to strengthen cooperation and boost regional tourism connectivity. The two sides exchanged views on the sector’s development direction and discussed practical opportunities for collaboration.

CICA expressed strong interest in Cambodia’s tourism potential, citing peace, political stability and steady economic growth as key factors for attracting visitors and investors. Minister Hak welcomed the support, praising CICA’s role in promoting peace and cooperation in Asia, and thanked the organization for its commitment to showcasing Cambodia’s tourism assets.

Officials said discussions covered a wide range of initiatives, including plans to organize a CICA Tourism Forum, develop regional tourism circuits, hold expert workshops, and promote cultural heritage destinations. Youth tourism programs and educational exchanges were also highlighted as tools to strengthen connectivity and mutual understanding among member states.

Cambodia further proposed tourism promotion events, exhibitions and investment forums, including a first ever CICA Tourism Investment Forum and a FAM Trip program to attract investors and tour operators. Training programs for officials and experts were also suggested to improve service quality and sector management.

CICA, headquartered in Astana, Kazakhstan, was established in 1999. Cambodia joined in 2011 and has since actively contributed to regional peace, stability and development.
