PHNOM PENH, April 7, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia and the United Nations have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in the tourism sector, with a focus on promoting green standards, climate resilience and community-based initiatives, officials said Monday.

The pledge was made during a meeting between Tourism Minister Huot Hak and UN Resident Coordinator Vladanka Andreeva.

Andreeva praised Cambodia’s infrastructure development and highlighted the cultural importance of Banteay Chhmar Temple following her recent visit. Hak congratulated her on her appointment and expressed appreciation for the UN’s longstanding role in Cambodia’s economic, social and humanitarian progress.

Discussions centered on expanding cooperation in sustainable tourism, including policy frameworks, training in hospitality and digital skills, and initiatives to improve community livelihoods. Both sides agreed to prioritize community-based tourism, enhance data systems and leverage digital technologies to support Cambodia’s progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals.

The partnership aims to ensure tourism growth delivers tangible benefits to local communities while aligning with global development priorities. Hak added that Cambodia’s peace, stability and steady economic growth provide a strong foundation for attracting international visitors and investment.

Cambodia has been a UN member since 1955, with the organization playing a key role in supporting peace and development, including through the 1991 Paris Peace Agreements.
