Cambodia Tightens Tourism Service Standards Ahead of Khmer New Year
PHNOM PENH, April 8, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism has issued nationwide guidelines to improve service quality ahead of the Khmer New Year celebrations from April 14 to 16, officials said Wednesday.
The measures aim to enhance visitor experiences under the campaign “Clean City, Clean Resort, Good Service, Warm Hospitality,” while showcasing Cambodia’s cultural identity during the festive period.

Tourism operators have been instructed to coordinate with authorities to ensure security, public order, hygiene and cleanliness at business locations.
They are required to decorate premises with lighting and national flags reflecting Khmer culture, provide adequate parking, manage traffic flow, and display clear prices and service conditions.
The ministry also emphasized staff training in hospitality, ethics and professional service skills, with employees encouraged to wear uniforms that reflect Khmer identity. Strict hygiene standards are mandated, particularly for restrooms, which must be clean, well-equipped and properly separated for men and women.
Operators are urged to promote Cambodia’s tourism sector under slogans such as “Tourism for All, All for Tourism,” “Tourism Grows in Peace,” and “Every Citizen is a Tourism Ambassador.”
The guidelines are intended to ensure a safe, welcoming and high-quality tourism environment during the New Year festivities, reinforcing Cambodia’s reputation as a hospitable destination.
