Cambodia partners with GGGI and KDB to boost private investment in climate technology

PHNOM PENH, April 9, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia is stepping up its push toward a green economy through a new partnership aimed at unlocking private investment in climate technology and supporting sustainable industrial development, officials said Wednesday.

Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Hem Vanndy met with representatives from the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and the Korea Development Bank (KDB) to advance the implementation of a climate technology innovation initiative in Cambodia.

The program is designed to support climate-focused enterprises, mobilize private sector financing and strengthen the country’s green industrial ecosystem, aligning with Cambodia’s broader goals for sustainable and resilient growth.

Vanndy praised the long-standing efforts of both partners and reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to effective coordination. He stressed that implementation must be practical and flexible, tailored to Cambodia’s context, and inclusive of local enterprises. “To ensure meaningful impact, implementation must be adaptable and inclusive, allowing Cambodian enterprises to access financing and grow within the green economy,” he said.

The minister also called for fast-track approval mechanisms to accelerate disbursement of funds and investment to climate-focused businesses.

GGGI representative Lee highlighted the initiative’s strong potential, noting nearly five years of preparation. He welcomed Cambodia’s leadership but pointed to challenges, including selecting suitable enterprises, encouraging participation from women-led businesses and strengthening investor confidence. He emphasized that a clear intellectual property protection framework would be essential to attract private investment and foster innovation.

Vanndy reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting intellectual property protection and promoting effective technology transfer, saying the initiative must deliver tangible benefits to Cambodian businesses and contribute to the country’s green transition.
