PHNOM PENH, April 28, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s banana exports rose 16 percent in the first quarter of 2026, driven by strong global demand and expanding access to international markets, official data showed Tuesday.

The General Department of Customs and Excise said the country earned more than US$48 million from fresh banana exports between January and March, marking steady year on year growth.

China remained the dominant destination, accounting for the majority of shipments, followed by Japan, Vietnam, Hong Kong and South Korea.

Industry officials said the growth reflects rising demand and improved production capacity. Khim Finan, spokesperson for the Ministry of Agriculture, noted that Cambodian bananas continue to gain traction in overseas markets.

According to the Ministry of Commerce, Cambodia earned more than US$178 million from fresh banana exports in 2025, up nearly 17 percent from 2024.

With more than 16,000 hectares under cultivation and production hubs across several provinces, Cambodia’s banana sector is steadily strengthening its role in regional fruit supply chains.
