Cambodia Eyes New Tourism Markets Amid Global Uncertainty
PHNOM PENH, May 5, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia is stepping up efforts to identify new priority tourism markets for 2027–2028 as the country navigates global uncertainty and intensifying regional competition, officials said Tuesday.
Tourism Minister Huot Hak told a high level seminar on overseas market research that the initiative reflects a proactive strategy built on closer public private collaboration.

Co chaired with business leader Lu Meng, the seminar gathered some 200 participants from government agencies, the Cambodia Tourism Board, airlines and private operators to assess global travel trends, competitiveness challenges and future opportunities.
The air connectivity and pricing as key constraints limiting Cambodia’s ability to compete with regional destinations. The discussions come as shifting geopolitical and economic conditions pose new challenges to tourism recovery, prompting authorities to refine long term strategies.
To stimulate demand, the government is continuing campaigns such as “Visit Cambodia in Green Season 2026” and “Solidarity Season” to boost domestic travel. A temporary visa free policy for Chinese visitors during the mid year green season is also in place.
Minister said identifying the right mix of international markets, alongside strengthening domestic tourism and service quality, will be critical to sustaining growth and competitiveness in the years ahead.
