Cambodia’s Gasoline Price Rises Slightly While Diesel Prices Ease

PHNOM PENH, May 7, 2026 (KPT) — Retail fuel prices in Cambodia moved in opposite directions this week, with gasoline edging higher while diesel declined, the government said Wednesday.

Authorities set the retail price of gasoline at 5,300 riel ($1.32) per litre, up 150 riel ($0.04), while diesel fell 100 riel ($0.02) to 5,550 riel ($1.39). Officials said the adjustments reflected continued volatility in global oil markets, with benchmark prices climbing above $90 per barrel for gasoline and $100 for diesel.

To cushion the impact, the government pledged to maintain subsidies and tax relief, including a 6.5 cent per litre subsidy, an additional one cent reduction and zero import duties. The special tax on gasoline has been halved to 15 percent, while the diesel tax has been removed. VAT has been cut to 4 percent for gasoline and eliminated for diesel.

Cambodia is also in talks with the World Bank and Asian Development Bank on fiscal support to stabilise inflation and transport costs amid global energy uncertainty.
