PHNOM PENH, May 18, 2026 (KPT) — Raw cashew nut exports from Cambodia jumped more than 24 percent in the first four months of 2026, official data showed Monday, defying concerns over extreme weather and climate pressures.

More than 831,000 tonnes were shipped to Vietnam between January and April, generating about US$1.44 billion, according to unofficial figures from the Cashew Nut Association of Cambodia.

Uon Silot, president of the Cashew Nut Association of Cambodia, said the strong performance highlighted the sector’s resilience after fears that climate change could dent yields and quality.

Exports rose despite prolonged cold spells, unseasonal rainfall and temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius. Silot credited support from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, which deployed commune‑level officers to advise farmers directly in cashew‑growing areas.

The officers helped assess risks, adapt farming practices and respond to shifting climate conditions with technical support in the field.

In 2025, Cambodia earned about US$1.5 billion from exporting one million tonnes of raw cashews, a 27 percent increase from 2024. Cashews remain one of the kingdom’s fastest‑growing farm exports, with Vietnam its main market.
