PHNOM PENH, May 25, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia and Malaysia are deepening cooperation in tourism and investment through expanded people-to-people connectivity, cultural exchange, and joint promotion of business opportunities, officials said Monday.

The commitment was underscored at the “Malaysia Travel and Shopping Fair 2026,” held at AEON Mall Phnom Penh and organized by Tourism Malaysia with support from the Malaysian Embassy.

Cambodia’s Tourism Minister Huot Hak presided over the event, joined by Shaharuddin bin Onn, members of the diplomatic corps, tourism operators, airlines, healthcare representatives, private sector partners, and international guests.

Hak stressed that tourism development depends on peace, political stability, security, and international cooperation — particularly in facilitating the movement of tourists, investors, and businesses. He noted that tourism remains a key economic pillar under Cambodia’s Pentagonal Strategy, contributing significantly to growth and livelihoods.

The minister also promoted the “Visit Cambodia in the Green Season” campaign, running from May to October 2026, which aims to attract international travelers through nature-based and cultural experiences under the “6 Musts” tourism concept.

The fair featured Malaysian cultural performances, fashion showcases, cooking demonstrations, Batik painting, tourism exhibitions, healthcare information, and promotional campaigns by Cambodian and Malaysian businesses.

Officials said the event reflects growing bilateral cooperation and is expected to further strengthen cultural exchange, tourism collaboration, and business connectivity between the two countries.

Cambodia and Malaysia have maintained diplomatic relations for 69 years, with tourism playing an increasingly important role in expanding bilateral ties and regional connectivity.
