PHNOM PENH, June 3, 2026 (KPT) —Tourism Minister Huot Hak says the newly launched Cambodia–India cross‑border QR payment system will make travel more convenient for Indian visitors and help attract more tourists to the Kingdom.

Speaking at the official launch ceremony organized by the Indian Embassy in Phnom Penh, Hak said the digital linkage represents more than technological progress, describing it as a bridge connecting people, businesses and tourists between the two countries through faster, safer and more convenient transactions.

The event was attended by Indian Ambassador Vanlalvawna Bawitlung, senior government officials, banking executives and private sector leaders. Hak expressed strong support for the initiative, noting it will facilitate travel, support tourism businesses, promote a more connected and inclusive digital economy, and further strengthen friendship and cooperation between Cambodia and India.

The National Bank of Cambodia said Indian users can now make digital payments by scanning Cambodia’s KHQR codes at more than 4.5 million merchant locations nationwide using UPI‑enabled apps.

The system is expected to improve the overall travel experience for Indian tourists while creating new opportunities to expand bilateral tourism cooperation, including religious tourism, wellness tourism and stronger industry collaboration.

According to the Ministry of Tourism, Cambodia welcomed about 22,000 Indian visitors in the first quarter of 2026, a figure expected to rise through enhanced connectivity and new facilitation measures.

Hak added that upcoming International Yoga Day celebrations and related events in Cambodia will provide further opportunities to attract Indian tourists and deepen people‑to‑people exchanges.
