PHNOM PENH, June 26, 2026 (KPT) — Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet has called for stronger support for Cambodia’s micro, small and medium‑sized enterprises, stressing their role in driving domestic production, expanding market access and bolstering resilience amid global uncertainty.

In a message marking the Third National MSME Day on June 27, Samdech Thipadei said this year’s theme — Building Bridges for MSMEs to Markets — reflects the government’s commitment to connecting Cambodian enterprises with domestic, regional and international markets.

He noted that supply chain disruptions, intensifying trade competition and geopolitical tensions have underscored the need to strengthen national production capacity and create broader opportunities for local businesses.

“MSMEs are not only the backbone of Cambodia’s economy but also a driving force for job creation, innovation, economic security and national resilience,” he said.

According to the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, Cambodia recorded 753,670 economic units nationwide, employing about 3 million people, with the figure significantly higher when informal economy actors are included.

The premier highlighted ongoing support through the Pentagonal Strategy – Phase I, the Informal Economy Development Strategy 2023–2028, financing programs from the SME Bank, ARDB and CGCC, as well as digital platforms such as Khmer Enterprise and KhmerSME. He urged Cambodians to back locally made products through campaigns like “Khmer Supports Khmer Products” and “Khmer Can Do It.”

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also encouraged MSMEs to improve product quality, branding, packaging and digital adoption while complying with standards. He underscored the importance of Cambodia’s National Quality Infrastructure in helping enterprises meet international requirements and expand exports.

The National MSME Day serves as a platform to connect government agencies, the private sector, development partners and financial institutions, enabling Cambodian enterprises to strengthen their role in regional and global value chains as the country pursues its goal of becoming a high‑income nation by 2050.
