PHNOM PENH, June 12, 2026 (KPT) — UNAIDS has congratulated Cambodia on achieving the global HIV 95‑95‑95 targets, a milestone hailed as a major step toward ending AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.

Eamonn Murphy, UNAIDS Regional Director for Asia‑Pacific, Eastern Europe and Central Asia, conveyed the recognition during a meeting with Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet at the Peace Palace. He praised Cambodia’s progress in healthcare, noting the country is among only seven worldwide — and the first in the Asia‑Pacific region — to reach the benchmark.

The 95‑95‑95 targets mean that 95 percent of people living with HIV know their status, 95 percent of those diagnosed receive treatment, and 95 percent of those on treatment achieve viral suppression.

Murphy encouraged Cambodia to share its experience with other nations and reaffirmed UNAIDS’ commitment to supporting the Kingdom’s HIV response and broader health sector development.

Samdech Thipadei thanked the United Nations for its longstanding support and said healthcare, education and job creation remain pillars of national development. He cautioned that HIV/AIDS and other communicable diseases continue to pose challenges requiring vigilance and cooperation.

The achievement reinforces Cambodia’s position as a regional leader in HIV prevention and treatment, underscoring its determination to eliminate AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.
