Cambodia to Open First Insurance Training Center by 2027

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Sept.11,2025) — Cambodia is set to launch its first Insurance Training Center in Phnom Penh by 2027, aiming to bolster expertise in a sector that has operated for more than two decades but still lacks specialized professionals.

Bou Chanpirou, director general of the Insurance Regulator of Cambodia (IRC), said the center is under construction and expected to welcome students within two years.

“Although the insurance sector has existed for over 20 years, we still face a shortage of specialists,” Chanpirou said. “There is no dedicated insurance major at universities, so we are working with local institutions to address this gap.”

The IRC plans to operate the school in partnership with the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), a U.K.-based organization known for its global training standards. A memorandum of understanding between the two entities is expected to be signed soon.

The collaboration aims to provide internationally recognized training to Cambodian insurance officials and workers, enhancing human resources and professional skills across the industry.

Chanpirou said the initiative marks a significant step toward aligning Cambodia’s insurance sector with global standards.
