PHNOM PENH, Mar. 13, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia and South Korea have reaffirmed their cooperation in tackling online scams while pledging to deepen investment and economic ties, officials said Thursday.

Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol, First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), met with Kim Chang Yong, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, to discuss bilateral initiatives.

Chanthol welcomed Kim’s appointment and praised Korea’s continued support for Cambodia’s socio-economic development. He highlighted steady growth in trade and investment under the Cambodia–Korea Free Trade Agreement and noted that the elevation of ties to a “Strategic Partnership” in 2024 opened new opportunities for collaboration.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment, under Prime Minister Hun Manet, to eliminate online scams through prevention, law enforcement, public awareness, and international cooperation. He cited successful joint task force operations and confirmed that the 3rd Cambodia–Korea Government–Private Sector Dialogue will convene on April 8.

Ambassador Kim conveyed appreciation from the Korean president for Cambodia’s strong cooperation, saying joint efforts had improved the safety of Korean citizens. He invited Chanthol to lead an investment promotion mission to Seoul in June and pledged to encourage major Korean projects to consider Cambodia.

Kim also expressed hope that the upcoming 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations will be marked as a landmark event, further strengthening ties between the two nations.
