PHNOM PENH, March 3 (KPT) — The “Nokor Sangkranta” 2026 celebrations will be held in Phnom Penh from April 14 to 19 as part of this year’s Khmer New Year festivities, organisers said Tuesday.

The six-day event will showcase Cambodia’s customs and traditions while strengthening ties with displaced citizens and frontline armed forces, according to the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC).

Sok Sopheakna, a senior UYFC member, said the festival was designed to preserve ancestral heritage, boost the economy and attract tourists under the campaign “Khmer New Year – Visit Cambodia (Home Coming).”

Religious ceremonies will be held to dedicate merit to fallen heroes and victims, and to pray for peace and prosperity, organisers added.

Deputy Prime Minister Hun Many, who heads the UYFC, described the New Year as a time for family reunions and national unity, noting that the programme was designed to include frontline troops and displaced citizens.

Events will take place at several sites across the capital, including Wat Phnom, the Chaktomuk Riverside Walkway, Vattanac Capital and the Phnom Penh Night Market.

Hun Many also thanked the Ministry of Information, the Television Association and journalists for what he called accurate and timely coverage of major national events.
