PHNOM PENH, March 2 (KPT) – Cambodia on Monday welcomed Louise Mushikiwabo, Secretary‑General of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF), as the country prepares to host the 20th Francophonie Summit later this year.

Mushikiwabo was received at the Senate’s Independence Hall by Deputy Head of State Samdech Techo Hun Sen. Senate spokesperson Chea Thyrith said Hun Sen warmly welcomed the delegation, describing the visit as an important step in Cambodia’s summit preparations.

During her trip, Mushikiwabo toured the newly built Techo International Airport, noting its readiness to accommodate high‑level delegates from Francophonie member states.

She praised Cambodia as an active member of the Francophonie and commended Hun Sen for his leadership and efforts to maintain peace.

Hun Sen expressed satisfaction with her remarks and reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to hosting a successful summit. He said he hoped the event would carry historic significance for both Cambodia and the wider Francophonie community, despite global challenges.

Mushikiwabo also announced plans to visit displaced citizens along the Cambodia‑Thailand border, calling it part of a collaborative effort to support peace and stability ahead of the summit.

Hun Sen welcomed the initiative and assured that the border dispute would not affect the organisation of the event.

The Deputy Head of State concluded by wishing Mushikiwabo and her delegation a successful official visit.
