PHNOM PENH, 27 February 2026 (KPT) – Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet has said developing Cambodia’s cities will be central to strengthening tourism and driving wider economic growth.

In a message posted on social media Friday to mark the 13th National Clean City Day, held under the theme “Solidarity for Clean Cities”, Samdech ThipadeiHun Manet described urban centres as hubs for “living, leisure, tourism activities, commerce, economy, politics and culture”.

He said tourism growth would in turn spur urban development by attracting investment, creating economic opportunities and encouraging new models of city planning.

Preserving heritage, ensuring environmental sustainability and expanding infrastructure would help make cities more vibrant and attractive, he added.

The premier said urban planning must prioritise cleanliness, green spaces, a healthy environment and well-connected infrastructure, alongside safety, innovation and social welfare.

He also stressed the importance of protecting traditions and historic urban heritage, calling them key draws for domestic and international visitors.

Speaking on behalf of the Royal Government of the seventh legislature, Samdech ThipadeiHun Manet pledged to continue restoring and developing the tourism sector, following what he called the “heroic model” of Senate president and former prime minister Hun Sen.

National Clean City Day is held annually to encourage citizens, particularly young people, to promote green development, hospitality and sustainable urban environments.

The government says the initiative supports tourism while fostering resilient and inclusive socio-economic growth.
