Cambodian King and Queen Mother to travel to China for medical check-up

Phnom Penh, Feb 26, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia’s King Norodom Sihamoni and Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk will leave for Beijing on Feb 27 for a routine medical examination, the Royal Palace announced.
A royal message dated Feb 25 said Senate President Hun Sen will serve as acting head of state during the King’s absence.
The palace added that the King and Queen Mother conveyed blessings to Cambodia’s two Supreme Patriarchs, praying for their longevity, health and strength. The royal family traditionally travels to China twice a year for medical consultations.
Earlier this month, the palace said King Sihamoni had temporarily delegated authority to Hun Sen during state visits by Lao and Vietnamese leaders, citing constitutional provisions that allow the monarch to transfer responsibilities when indisposed.
