BRUSSELS, Feb 26, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet held talks with senior European Union leaders during a visit to Belgium on Wednesday.

In Brussels, Samdech Thipadei met António Costa, President of the European Council, for a courtesy call and discussion in the afternoon. Earlier the same day, he also met Christel Schaldemose, Vice-President of the European Parliament.

The meetings follow Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet’s recent trip to Washington, D.C., where he attended a peace-related inauguration event at the invitation of US President Donald Trump.

According to Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the European visit also includes stops in Geneva and Brussels, with meetings scheduled with senior officials and stakeholders to strengthen partnerships and expand cooperation.

Government spokesman Pen Bona said the prime minister was undertaking a series of high-level meetings following visits to the United States and Europe.

In Geneva, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet met UN Secretary-General António Guterres, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk, UN General Assembly President Annalena Baerbock,

and Gilles Carbonnier, Vice-President of the International Committee of the Red Cross. He also held talks with the president of Timor-Leste.

Cambodia’s border issue with Thailand featured prominently in the discussions. Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet called for full implementation of bilateral agreements, peaceful resolution in line with international law, and the safe return of displaced civilians.

He said peace remained Cambodia’s guiding principle, even as the country continued to face what it described as unilateral actions by Thai forces.

Cambodia reiterated its legal position, citing international law, the principle of uti possidetis juris, and historical treaties and boundary records.
