PHNOM PENH, Feb 25, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodian analysts have criticized Thailand’s foreign minister following his interview with France 24, accusing him of evasion and failing to address mounting border tensions.

Political analyst Yang Peou said the minister avoided direct answers on alleged Thai military operations inside Cambodian territory.

“There were several questions he could not clearly answer, particularly regarding military activities and the presence of Thai troops,” Peou noted, adding that Thai officials continue to issue what he described as misleading statements.

He argued that historical references to Cambodian refugees in Thailand during the civil war cannot substitute for formal border demarcation.

Peou stressed that disputes should be resolved through agreed mechanisms such as the General Border Committee or Regional Border Committee, underpinned by treaties and internationally recognized maps.

Kin Phea, another analyst, alleged Thailand violated the December ceasefire by advancing troops and constructing barriers, including bunkers and fencing.

He said Cambodia’s decision to raise the issue internationally was not aimed at targeting Thailand but at documenting violations of sovereignty under international law.

The Thai foreign minister, Sihasak Phuangketkeow, referred to ceasefire terms requiring troops to remain in place but declined to give a direct answer when asked if Thailand was occupying Cambodian land.
