PM Reaffirms Commitment to Peace, Vows Support for Displaced and Fallen Soldiers’ Families
PHNOM PENH, Feb 15, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet on Sunday reaffirmed his government’s determination to prevent a return to armed conflict as he met more than 1,200 families displaced by recent instability along the Cambodia–Thailand border, a spokesman said.
Government spokesman Pen Bona said Hun Manet addressed 1,248 displaced families from Prey Chan and Chouk Chey villages, now sheltering at Chan Sy Samaky Ratanaram Pagoda in O’Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province. The premier stressed that Phnom Penh was exhausting all diplomatic and strategic avenues to preserve peace.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also paid tribute to families of fallen soldiers, vowing that their sacrifices “will forever be remembered in national history.” He announced support measures including livelihood assistance, rehabilitation programs, scholarships for children up to bachelor’s level, debt restructuring, and the possible creation of a dedicated support fund.
The visit underscored what Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet described as a policy of “no citizen left behind.” Authorities are coordinating temporary housing for displaced families, with efforts focused on sanitation and security at shelters.
The spokesman said Cambodia has lodged formal protests against what it calls violations by Thai armed forces at positions “illegally occupied through military force.” Phnom Penh reaffirmed its stance on defending the border as defined by Franco–Siamese treaties and Indochina–Siam Boundary Commission records, stressing it does not recognize any modification resulting from force.
Since the ceasefire, Cambodia has respected the Oct. 26, 2025 peace agreement with Thailand and subsequent joint statements, including the Dec. 27, 2025 meeting of the General Border Committee, the spokesman added.
