PHNOM PENH, Feb 12, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia’s mine action authority has reaffirmed its adherence to international mine ban obligations after Thai military sources reported the discovery of an anti-personnel mine along the Cambodia–Thailand border.

In a statement issued Tuesday, the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA) said it had taken note of the reports and stressed that the country

“upholds its obligations under international humanitarian disarmament agreements” and remains committed to eradicating anti-personnel mines.

The authority highlighted Cambodia’s “substantial, internationally recognised progress” in clearing contaminated land and reducing the threat posed by explosive remnants of war.

It said any mine found in the border area was “highly likely to be a legacy device” from past conflicts. CMAA added that Cambodia does not produce, stockpile or lay new mines, and maintains controls consistent with its international commitments.

It warned that disseminating unverified information could cause misunderstandings and heighten tensions.

The authority said Cambodia remained ready to engage “constructively and transparently” through bilateral and international mechanisms to clarify the situation,

stressing that humanitarian mine action should serve the shared goal of protecting civilians and promoting stability along the frontier.
